A PwC study states that 4 out of 5 CEOs believe workers who do not possess basic essential skills can harm the growth of the organization as a whole. In addition, Deloitte’s Bill Pester asserts, upskilling is now a “business imperative”, without which companies stand to lag behind in competition, leading to lesser turnovers and decreasing relevance.
The TalentLMS study showed at least half of managers believe their teams lack critical soft skills necessary for today’s workplace. Despite the statement and very encouraging statistics, only 35 percent of employers have an official upskilling/reskilling program in place, according to the TalentLMS study. One of the biggest reasons for that small number? Fear and misconceptions related to investing in people and their careers.
“Learning in college is becoming less and less applicable...because the rate of [technological] acceleration will usually outpace what you can learn in four years,” says Mullings. “Therefore, upskilling is hypercritical.”
